Welcome to The New D Project — documentary, street, portrait, political, concert, fashion, and travel photography by Tyler James "Tj" Belfiore. Select photographs are available as limited-edition prints, made directly from my original film negatives. Each image is limited to 10 prints per size, with every print hand-signed and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) and a small archival card detailing the photograph's origin, film, and additional details.

Once all 10 prints of a size are sold, that size is permanently retired and goes back into the shoebox—never to be printed again.

The selection is constantly rotating. From a collection of tens of thousands of photographs, only 10 images are available at a time. When one leaves, another takes its place.

The archive is enormous. The selection is not.

The photograph above was taken on the rubble of my home after the 2018 Camp Fire, which devastated Paradise, California. I had lost almost everything (except my ol' reliable Nikon F). That experience fundamentally changed the way I see the world—and the way I photograph it. Losing a home taught me that nothing is permanent. Places disappear. People leave. Moments happen once and are gone forever. Photography became a way of preserving what might otherwise be lost.

That sense of urgency has stayed with me. Whether I'm photographing a protest, a politician, a concert, a foreign city, or a stranger's expression on the street, I'm looking for something real—something that may never happen exactly that way again.

I shoot exclusively on film.

There is a deliberate pace to working with film. You have a limited number of frames. You have to pay attention, anticipate the moment, and trust your instincts.

Every photograph begins as a physical piece of film—a negative created at a particular place and moment. That's what I'm trying to preserve.

The New D Project is an ongoing, ever-growing archive of those moments. Some photographs are beautiful. Some are uncomfortable. Some are chaotic. Some are completely insignificant to anyone except me. But they're all part of the same idea: Photograph it before it's gone.
